A Blowe Door pressurizes or depressurizes a house to identify any unintentional and hard-to-find air leakage sites. When the pressure differential is established, the Blowe Door acts like a fan, blowing air into or exhausting air out of the house. It then measures the amount of air flowing in or out of the house at a given pressure. It is then used to calculate the dwelling's overall air infiltration and air tightness.

Is a Blower Door required in New York?
The answer is YES; New York State Energy Conservation and Construction Code (NYS ECCC) requires the building or dwelling unit shall be tested and verified as having an air leakage rate not exceeding three air changes per hour. Testing shall be conducted following ASTM E779 or ASTM E 1827 and reported at a pressure of 50 Pascals. An approved third party shall conduct testing. A written report of the test results shall be signed by the party conducting the test and provided to the code official.
